The Database State rolls up its sleeves

Thanks to my special correspondent Will Dean for the following web pages; one from before the weekend, and one after. It looks like the Government has been reading my mind. As one of over 10,000 people who have pledged to go to jail rather than carry ZaNU Labour's ID Card or be registered on its database, I had in mind to extend my international career by renewing my passport early. From the before and after Web Pages (click on them to enlarge), you can see the Government is determined to prevent people doing that. They want us on the database, and sooner rather than later.

Since sending you that, I have heard elsewhere that the original footnote was only ADDED recently after pressure from anti-ID-card campaigners.

I've no way to verify that - and I'm not sure it means much one way or the other.

As far as I can tell from the renewal form, if your appearance has changed significantly, that's also grounds for renewal.

I'd get the thing in anyway. If they cash your check, that surely means you're getting a new passport. Well fuck, I hope so.

I did all ours last year. Still had a couple of years to run but no questions were asked. So they all last till almost 2016. By then the whole lot will have collapsed in a heap.

I may even retire to Spain or somewhere prior to 2016 if it get's much worse here.

I guess I can always grow a beard to justify the new passport. The trouble is I will then look like a Guardian reader. It's bad enough that I read Angliskaya Pravda without actually looking the part.
